Repairing a scratched powerbook screen

I've just bought a TiBook G4 (DVI) that seems to have developed etched-in
marks from parts of the trackpad and palmrest! These have obviously been
rubbing up against the display and have left paint and scratches on it which
can even been seen when the display is lit up as dark, opaque speckles :(

The question is, what can be done to remove these, other than buy a new
display! If it was just grease/oil I wouldn't be concerned as that's not
visible when the display is lit up. The only thing I've been able to find on
the internet is iPod scratch remover. However, this is actually a mild
abrasive for acrylic surfaces as far as I know.

Alex Taylor...
There are some scratch removers for screens that come in the form of a
polish, which fills the scratches in. It's meant to have the same
optical characteristics as the screen, and therefore be invisible.
It might be worthwhile search for a product that explicitly mentions
this in its description.

`Alex, thanks, that sounds like exactly what I'm looking for! I couldn't
find anything like this in my search. If you remember the name or any clues
please let me know. Thanks again.

Anyone else had this problem?

Bob Wardrope...
Never had marks from the palmrest/ trackpad area but any marks on the
screen from the keyboard area were removed using a damp microfibre cloth
(using circular motion and *very* light pressure). The 4 1/2 year old
Tibook I sold just before Christmas had no marks on the screen but did
exhibit 'normal' [1] bezel paint cracking.

Oh yes. It goves them a certain kind of battered integrity.
Distinguishes them from these modern Aluminum Jezebels. Marks of
experience, as in Joanna Lumley at sixty (AAAAAAhhhhh!)
