It struck me the other day that while people seem to like to make fun
of folks who buy Harley branded clothing, no one seems to care about
all the other brands out there.
This hit me as I watched people walk by with Kawasaki, SkiDoo (it is
Canada), Polaris, Yamaha, Suzuki and various other name brand jackets.
Not to mention the Ford, GM, VW, Toyota and the occasional John Deere
and Kenworth stuff.
Hats, Jackets, Shirts, they are all out there.
Yet for some reason wearing Harley stuff is just wrong?
and two t-shirts so :-P

Good point and a simple explanation, Bob. Whether it's Europeans
reacting to the U.S., the whiners reacting to Harleys or whatever, one
should not underestimate the influence of envy.

And, on Reeky, those who rag on Harleys... there's a bunch of
go-against-the-grain, stand-up-to-the-majority individualists for ya!

My wife has a HD jacket and boots (though neither of us ride HD)
because the quality and selection of women's wear is greater at the HD
shop.
I have a HD hat I keep in my bike - I won it at the HD shop while
getting said boots and jacket.
For my gear though I have no HD stuff, but I can get as good or better
quality cheaper elsewhere. Men's selections of riding gear is a bit
easier to find than women's.
I never really thought about brand. I buy what works best for my
purposes.

That's partly my point. They do have excellent stuff.
It shouldn;y matter whose name is on it.

IMO, an article or two of clothing promoting the bike (or car) you own
is OK. Dressing head-to-toe in branded clothing reeks of a sheep-like
attitude, IMO.
Rule of thumb: Wear at most one obvious logo, unless you're being paid
to do so.
And please, if you're over the age of 15, no logos of products you
don't actually own or use.

My friends and i used to think it was cool to get STP stickers (then the
"indy 500 winner" was cooler), but we only had bicycles to put them on.

Hmmph. I'm partial to my Head racquetball shirts. If life could be summed up
in one word, few come closer in my mind.

Uhoh.
In San Francisco there's a shop that specializes in boots; it's called Stompers.
I stomped in there one day to buy some riding boots. I found a pair that I
liked: just over ankle height, they lace up and have a velcro tabby thing to
fold down over the lace ends. Neat. They're Harley-Davidson brand boots, but the
tag is pretty small.

That's okay. My boots are Caterpillar brand boots, but I don't own a
bulldozer!

I like to wear brands other than the bike I'm riding at the time. I.e. BMW
clothing whilst riding my Harley and Harley Brands and HOG colors whilst
riding my BMW. BSA, Norton. Norton, Triumph.
Once, in mid-summer, I was riding into a closed Angeles National Forest. I
was riding my Norton with a Triumph T-Shirt on. The ranger was turning cars
back until he got to me. He walked over and shook his head saying, "I was
expecting to see a nice Triumph". I said, "But, this is a fully restored
Norton!". The ranger said "Not the same", and let me into the forest. I
thought that was as funny as hell.

You can get Toyota ass less chaps?

I'm not checking the name on chaps.

I am so covered with Harley clothing, jackets, etc.
The overall quality of their clothing products is supurb. Plus they have
sizes that fit me, all over the world. A little Thai waitress will be buying

me a Harley shirt in BangCOCK, next month.

The quality is good and I can now buy stuff because I like it rather
than because it is on sale.
Not that I will turn down a bargain and always check the clearance
rack before the regular racks.
My new winter coat is a Helly Hansen that was marked down about 60%.
Still cost more than I would normally spend but it has the same
quality as the H-D stuff. High.

Guilty. I plead guilty. I wear a Roots 2002 Canadian Hockey jersey, in
honour of my Canuck friends that visited for the Olympics.
But fer cryin' out loud, I wish my jacket didn't PROCLAIM Joe Rocket. And I
can't stand the mofo's down at the Cotton Bottom with their H-D CELL PHONE
HOLDERS! Sheeeesh!
What ever happened to being "discrete".
Bryan
(P.S. - My Mom never let me own a red car, "They get more tickets." Honest
to god.)
