savsya...
I am looking to buy a used kawasaki vulcan drifter. I did a test ride
and the bike runs great.

Once I got back and switched off the bike, I noticed that there was a
rattling (or tick-tick) sound from the engine side of the bike. Since

kingfish...
Um, just what side would that be??

Matt Chapter...
The bottom?

Venture Rider...
The middle.

the bike has loud pipes, I am not sure if the sound was there while I
was riding.

I was told that it is because the bike was kept for a long time without
using and that it would go away. I think it may be the case. But does
any one know what the noise is actually.

tomorrow...
This happened AFTER the bike was switched off? If so, it was just the
normal sounds of a bike cooling off.

Steve L...
All bikes and cars do it. It's the sound of the metal parts contracting
as they cool.

Venture Rider...
I wonder if it's worse on some bikes due to the combination of metals
in use (aluminum / cast iron / steel / ...)

pieface...
It's all the little men with their hammers putting it back together.

jim rozen...
They were re-packing the muffler bearings.
