Windows based recorder program

Steve Osmon...
I'm sure this question has been asked and answered on RAMPS before but I
can't find it in the archives. Are there any Windows based recording
programs that work in a similar fashion as Metacorder does with Mac's? I'm
looking for something that will interface with an Onyx with the firewire
option and a PC laptop. Multi-track, multi format(.wav, .bwf, mp3 etc) with
ability to write metadata and output to a DVD disk. Also do any have TC
capabilities? Suggestions?

Steve Osmon

Courtney Goodin...
Just downloaded the Trial version of Adobe Audition 2.0 (30 day trial
It does support BWF files However I'm not sure how you would get External
TC into it. It may use Midi TC inputs so you would have to have a SMPTE to
Midi TC converter. It will Record multiple low latency tracks with ASIO
drivers. So as long as your Onyx Firewire has ASIO compliant drivers it
should work as the multi-channel input source. I haven't found support for
HD frame Rates yet although it mentions a Custom SMPTE frame Rate I can't
find the place to set it.

Mackie has software made for the Onyx, AFAIK. I've seen it in use. And I imagine
most of the good Windows programs would work: Audition, Vegas, ProTools....

Jeff Wexler...
I think the software that Mackie provides is Traction (which runs on
both Mac and Windows) and from the small amount of time I spent with it
it is not very good software (on either platform). ProTools is not
specifically a Windows only program (actually for years ProTools was a
Mac only program) and from what I have heard, ProTools does not run as
well on Windows and will still have the problem of being tied to a
specific piece of hardware (from Digidesign and now more recently from
M-Audio, a company purchased by Digidesign). The Mackie Onyx with
Firewire interface is totally Apple Core Audio compliant so there is a
multitude of software available on the Mac platform to relate to the
Onyx. I know that Windows does not really have the equivalent of Core
Audio built into the OS but does support AISO and other standards. The
Windows users on this group seem to think that Audition is good, so
maybe that works with the Onyx?
