I've been taking vicodin all week, and it caused me to retain water to
the tune of 5 pounds. I'm off the pills now, is there any trick to
shedding the water quickly?

Going low carb frequently includes water loss. The body stores
carbs in the form of glycogen. Glycogen is stored by dissolving
it in water. Goodbye stored carbs, goodbye the water it was
dissolved in. Of course, switch back to some other type of
plan and you'll restock your body's carbs again ...

I know it's not fat, because i haven't missed a workout, and haven't
eaten any differently.

My very biased opinion - Water is not fat. Since most of us are
here to lose fat, any effort spent on water is not to the point. So
what that water is effected by gravity and therefore registers on
the scale ...

Let me second that welcome!
I have the same problem, a med I took briefly last week resulted in an
immediate gain that now seems like it's part of the family. Honestly there
isn't a quick way to get it off as I've experienced sudden water gains of as
much as 10-15 lbs and more and they just take forever to go away.
Don't change your routine but try upping the water just a glass or two and
keep the salt to a minimum. That usually helps it along.

If you know it's just water, why not deal with it by just getting back
to your normal routine? It should take care of itself within a few
days.

One thing I emphasize - The time scale for fat loss is month to
month not day to day. A few days is thus fast IMO.

It's gone! I quit taking the vicodin, and dropped back to where I
was. That stuff really constipates!
