XBOX 360 comparisons to the Dreamcast

Now that the reviews are showing that multiplatform games are more or
less equal on both the Xbox360 and PS3, do you think that people in the
media would stop making those claims that technologically, the 360 is
like the Dreamcast while the PS3 is like the PS2? I've seen Tommy

They aren't comparing it on a technological basis, they're comparing it
on a timeline basis. It's true, both the Dreamcast and Xbox 360
launched a year ahead of competing product. The difference is Sega had
no money to compete and ended up euthanising the Dreamcast before they
needed to.

A complete loss to the gaming community, too. By any standards, the
Dreamcast was and is a more than capable gaming platform. I still
fire mine up from time to time, and will continue to do so until
Vanishing Point is ported to the 360!

The people that I'm talking about did make such a comparison though.
Tommy of Electrical Playground said that the 360 looked semi-next gen
to him like DC did. I wonder what he'll say now with PS3 games looking
the same as 360 games.

Tallarico of "Electric Playground", at least 2 of the 1up editors, and
several mainstream journalists make that comparison. So far, the PS3
has shown that it is at best an improvement over the 360 like the Xbox
was an improvement over the PS2. The claim that the technological gap
between the 360/PS3 is like the gap between DC/PS2 seems to be
completely unsubstantiated.

I think the Xbox 1 was a lot like the Dreamcast -- and that's a
compliment. Dreamcast was a superior machine.

Agreed... Best machines of last gen in order:

1) Xbox
2) Dreamcast
3) PS2
4) Gamecube

It seems reasonable; the differences between the DC and the PS2 were not
that substantial.
